Together with world-renowned Lieder pianist Reinild Mees, Channa presents Mädchenblumen, a florid programme about love and the transformation from young girl into woman and mother. In the first part of the programme, mischievous humour, feigned light-heartedness and dramatic heartache are combined in a selection of Lieder by Mozart and Brahms. After the intermission, we move to the 20th century with songs by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi.
Inspired by Tuscan and Armenian folk music, these songs are not only about romantic love (requited or not), but also the deep love of a young mother for her child. The programme ends with Richard Strauss, who creates a beautiful late-romantic atmosphere with his erotic Mädchenblumen, in which he compares girls in love to four kinds of flowers: cornflowers, poppies, ivy and water lilies.
